We are dedicated to preserving our community's history. Our mission is to preserve and restore the historic schoolhouse and fire station, to provide continuing education opportunities, and to exhibit Camano Island history. Our Motto is "The old school becomes the new school."

In December of 2018, the Schoolhouse Foundation purchased the Fire Hall and is enjoying creating a whole new way for the Camano City Community to grow. A museum is being created on-site, full of Camano and Stanwood Fire Department history, including a 1935 fire engine.
The Camano Island community archive preserves history by digitizing photographs, letters, and documents. Using a post-custodial model, they scan and return original heirlooms to owners, saving space while safeguarding history.

The archive is open the second Saturday of every month from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, welcoming everyone to drop by and get acquainted. This is the perfect window to conduct local research, bring in historical items for donation, or get hands-on as a volunteer.
Whether you want to explore the island's past or help scan and organize new arrivals, stop in to see how we are keeping Camano’s history alive.

With your support we are able to renovate and preserve the iconic 1906 one-room Camano City Schoolhouse and Camano Island's first fire hall, to exhibit Camano Island history and to provide a vibrant gathering place for educational and cultural activities for people of all ages and abilities.
