Summer Sketchbook Series at The Camano Schoolhouse & Fire Hall

Thursdays (1-3 PM) -  July 23, 30, & August 6, 13, 20, 27

Come & learn to illustrate your inner and outer world! Grow in the art skills of observation, drawing, painting, and the proper way to use art materials. 

Bobbi Samples, long time Art Teacher, is celebrating the Schoolhouse history and beautiful setting to teach nature sketching, landscape, perspective, color and illustration in a variety of mediums. Classes build on each other or can be taken singly. Outside classes are weather permitting.

Kids 8 to 14 (3rd to 8th grade). Parents/Grandparents can stay to enjoy the environment or can sign up to take the class with their kiddos!

$20 per two-hour class. You must purchase tickets as seating is limited!

Drawing animals, domestic and wild. Learn the basics of  local wild and domestic animals.

Learn Nature and Sketchbook drawing, using various mediums, observing the local plants and trees at the schoolhouse.

Draw and paint animals in the Garden and Forest. Painting landscapes in watercolor.

Drawing people. Learn the basics of drawing people in various styles, beginners or advanced welcome.

Learning landscape skills such as perspective, both linear and atmospheric. Watercolor pencil use and intro to painting.

Illustration! draw your Characters: animals or people in a landscape or setting, using views, close & far of the Schoolhouse yard. 

7:00 PM, $20 per person. Rae Isla is an independent American singer-songwriter and musician from Bainbridge Island, WA, now based in Los Angeles. Drawing from her early years playing classical cello, learning piano and guitar as a teenager, and attending Berklee College of Music on a vocal scholarship, Rae weaves together a unique blend of folk, indie rock, and alt-country influences to create lush, evocative songs. Her 2021 debut album, Another Life, garnered critical acclaim with features in Rolling Stone and Billboard, and charted #27 on NACC radio. Her newly released sophomore album, New Frontier—featuring fan favorites like “Miles and Miles” and “Free to Love”—marks an evolution in her artistry as a songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and visual storyteller.

Rae’s voice has also reached new audiences through film and television. She performed the lead original song for Ezra, a feature film starring Robert DeNiro and Rose Byrne, and composed the theme for the upcoming docuseries SCENE: SILVER LAKE. Known as a “traveling bard,” Rae’s live performances are both intimate and immersive, sharing fantastical stories from the road and creating a communal experience that breaks down the barrier between artist and audience. A burgeoning American songwriter in her own right, Rae's ability to blend honest and intimate storytelling with cinematic arrangement will draw you in, and keep you there. Come celebrate with us, as we officially open the doors to the CAMANO ISLAND

FIRE MUSEUM on Saturday, September 12, 2026 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.! 

The museum was established to preserve the historical heritage of the fire service

on Camano Island, and honor the local heroes that served to protect the Island

and surrounding communities. The museum is located within the Camano City

Firehall - next to the 1906 Schoolhouse at 985 Orchid Road. Shuttle service will be provided during this event from the Camano Chapel beginning at 10am. 

A 9/11 Remembrance will begin at 11 a.m. featuring the North Snohomish

Firefighter Honor Guard, bagpiper, and bugle followed by a museum dedication.

Festivities begin at noon and include Camano Island Fire & Rescue apparatus,

children’s games, tours of the fire museum/schoolhouse and hotdogs! A

roundtable discussion with current/former fire service members begins at 1

p.m.

Come join us for a fun evening with the South End String Band as they play music from the backwash of the American Archipelago! Tickets are $20 pp.

This performance will be held in the Firehall (next to the old schoolhouse at 985 Orchid Road) in celebration of the "Camano Island Fire Museum" Grand Opening. 

*All proceeds will benefit the Camano City Schoolhouse & Firehall Foundation!
